Shame on Me

My apologies to everyone. I have been delinquent in posting who has been hanging around town. Starting with October I will be more diligent in my postings. Please send me any news you may have about sales, rewards, or upcoming competitions and I will post them here.

The news I will post here will be Hang'n 'Round Town news, Mid-Del Art Guild member news and art opportunities.

2006 has been a fast and furious year with lots of art opportunities all over the metro.
I wish to thank Mid-Del Art Guild for letting PAPCO borrow three easels for Septemberfest at the Oklahoma History Center. Septemberfest was a wonderful experience and the History Center is a wonderful place to visit. If you haven't been there yet, I highly recommend it. The first Monday of each month is free.

Fall is almost here. I hope you all have a great one, and I will see you Monday, October 2nd.

Here are my notes from tonights' TAG meeting.

Regarding the ABC event it was voted on that we would print more posters and not print any postcards or flyers. The Reps. voted on the submitted art work and Regina Murphy's painting of people viewing art at an art festival was selected.
Good photos, as a representation of your art work submitted with application for ABC, will be accepted as an alternative to digital media and/slides.

There is a publicity committee of six people in place. We need someone to volunteer to serve as the publicity chair. The Reps. were asked to ask for a volunteer from their respecitve groups. If anyone would from Mid-Del Art Guild would like to chair this committee please contact me (Pat Pearson; 732-4977.

TAG is also asking that each member group, in order to have representation, to be sure they have their new Reps. by Oct. 1st, if their present reps.are leaving. There should be three reps from each member group.

One of TAG's goals is to find a permanent home with enough space each group to conduct their regular meetings, workshops, classes, exhibitions, and have office and storage space. All of this information is being compiled to help facilitate our search for sponsors and the ideal location.

The Rink is still being discussed as a semi-permanent place to house all of TAG's member groups. It has plenty of room for everyone and the owners are willing to work with us on our needs. It will eventually have an indoor cafe/coffee shop.

The compilation of the TAG directory is complete and I will let everyone know when to expect their directory.

This concludes my report.

Art on the Bricktown Canal

For the second year, TAG is sponsoring an art demonstration and sale against the backdrop of the Bricktown Canal. Following the success of last year, we are hoping to delight the visitors with actual demonstrations by the artists who create their individual works and offer them for sale.

TAG is a 501 © 3 organization whose purpose is to promote the development of visual arts throughout Oklahoma.

Venue for the Demonstrations/Sale:
Bricktown Canal, Sheridan Avenue and Mickey Mantle Drive. Sites for individual artists are approximately 4’x8’. Many of the spaces are shaded. Artists are responsible for their own equipment and set-up. No tents are permitted, but small umbrellas can be used for shade, if needed. Artists are responsible for their own set-up and take-down.

Application Process:

All artists who belong to TAG member groups are encouraged to apply for space at “Art on the Bricktown Canal”. Submissions must be original works of art created by the submitting artist.
The deadline for application to “Art on the Bricktown Canal” is August 15, 2006.
Acceptance notification will be no later than August 25, 2006.

To apply, each artist must submit at least three slides or three digital images of the artwork. Slides must be mounted in cardboard or plastic and clearly marked with artist’s name, the dimensions of the work and the medium. Please mark the slide to indicate the top and front.
Digital images must be submitted on a CD Rom as jpeg, RGB, 300-400 dpi, no larger than 8x10. The files must be labeled with only the numbers that correspond with the image list.
Please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope or CD mailer to have slides returned.
The intent of this event is to offer the public the chance to see how artists create their art. All artists are encouraged to be actively working on their art in their space or to participate in the formal demonstrations during the hours of the event.

Entry fee is $25. This fee is not refundable. Checks should be made payable to TAG and sent with slides or CD’s along with the application. Send to:

HOUSE SET TO ACT ON ARTS APPROPRIATION:

CONTACT YOUR REPRESENTATIVES TO SUPPORT AMENDMENT TO INCREASE NEA FUNDING (Link to yours is below.)

The House Appropriations Committee on May 10 approved the Fiscal Year 2007 Interior Appropriations Bill setting funding for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) at $124.4 million, level funding as proposed in the Administration’s budget request. The Committee also adopted the Administration’s allocations for the arts endowment money, with a cut of $3.462 million from Challenge America to increase funds for administrative expenses by $1.843 million, for direct program grants by $1.117 million, and for State and Regional Partnerships by $508,000. The bill also sets level funding for the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) at $141 million.
When the bill goes to the House floor for votes on Thursday, May 18, the bipartisan leadership of the Congressional Arts Caucus is expected to offer an amendment adding $5 million to $7.5 million each for the NEA and NEH. The additional funds for the NEA would restore money to Challenge America and add funds to direct program grants.

Please contact your state’s Representatives in Congress to urge their support for the Congressional Arts Caucus amendment to add funding for the NEA when the bill comes to the House floor on May 18.
